Apollonia day trip from Fier: what to see and how to get there

Apollonia is one of Albania's most impressive ancient sites, and it sits just 20 minutes from central Fier near the village of Pojan. It makes a perfect half-day trip full of history and views.
A little history
Founded by Greek colonists in the 6th century BC, Apollonia grew into one of antiquity's most important cities — so respected that Julius Caesar sent his great-nephew, the future emperor Augustus, to study here.
What to see
Don't miss the Monument of Agonothetes (the famous columned façade), the Bouleuterion, the portico of niches, the theatre, and the Byzantine Monastery of St. Mary, which houses the site museum. The surrounding hills are as scenic as the ruins themselves.
How to get there

How long to spend
